January 21, 1999 Mr. Douglas Rathburn Dear Mr. Rathburn: To obtain ASE certification upon passing the test(s), ASE requires that an individual has two or more years of full-time, hands-on working experience as an automobile, truck or school bus technician, engine machinist, or in collision repair, refinishing, or damage analysis and estimating. The ASE Board of Directors also decided that two full years of relevant formal post-high school training or private trade school, technical institute, or community or four-year college may be substituted for up to one year of the two-year experience requirement. Full substitute of one year is also granted if the training program in question equals or exceeds 1,080 contact hours. In reviewing your program literature, graduates of your 40-week, 1,200-hour Diesel Technician Training program may receive twelve months substitute credit toward fulfillment of the experience requirement. Upon completion of one year full-time , hands-on working experience, graduates who wish to receive credit substitution must submit official transcript with their employment information for review. Thank you for your interest in and support of our program. If you have any questions, please fell free to contact me.
